Advancement, merit badges, uniforms, leadership, and more!

advancement & awards

Scouting provides a series of surmountable obstacles and steps in overcoming them through the advancement method. The steps in the advancement system help a Scout grow in self-reliance and in the ability to help others; to learn more about the process, please click the photo for the link.

Patrol Leader's Council

The troop’s plans for each month are reviewed and carried out by the Patrol Leader's Council (PLC).
The PLC is made up of the senior patrol leader, who presides over the meetings, the assistant senior patrol leader, all patrol leaders, and the troop guide. The troop scribe also attends to take notes and keep the minutes.

⬇️All about uniforms! ⬇️

Class A/Field Uniform

“Scouting America has always been a uniformed body. Its uniforms help to create a sense of belonging. They symbolize character development, leadership, citizenship training, and personal fitness. Wearing a uniform gives youth and adult members a sense of identification and commitment.“

Troops 7 & 77 wear the Class A uniform at any official scout function unless otherwise directed by leadership.

Examples include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • First Troop meeting of the month
  • For Boards of Review
  • Award Recognition Ceremonies
  • Parades or Special Service Ceremonies (Veteran's Day, etc)
  • Summer camp Dining Hall for dinner

The Scout Shop is available to provide all of the items needed for a Class A Uniform. You can visit in person at the address below.
As an added bonus to the new store, they now offer sewing options!
Unfortunately they do not have an online store for the local shop, but you can purchase uniform supplies from the National Scout Shop, which also has a "Uniform Builder" to help you find the right pieces.

Class B shirts & items

While Class B is not strictly a uniform, we wear them to match!

Class B shirts consist of a Troop shirt, which can include a Troop-specific shirt, a Scout-themed shirt, or a scout summer camp-themed shirt. The outfit can include pants or shorts (cargo style is best), Class B sweatshirt, and optional Class B headwear.

Typically Class B items are worn for all non-Class A activities unless otherwise noted, including:

  • Scout Meetings
  • Camping or Hiking Trips
  • Adventure Base Camp
  • Community Service
  • Eagle Scout project assistance

Often there are spare Class B shirts and items in the Troop Office; please see a scoutmaster if you are looking for anything!

⬇️To purchase from Elite Embroidery, you will need a password to enter; all new scouts receive this in their Welcome Packets. It is also available in Slack. If you cannot find it, please email TroopsofButtonwoods@gmail.com.
